SSDI Calculator: Find Your Official Estimate

For a useful SSDI estimate, start with your own earnings record. This page explains where to find SSA’s tools; it does not calculate an award from your diagnosis, age or state.

Use Your Personal Statement

Sign in through SSA’s official website to view your Social Security Statement and available disability estimate. Review the earnings history as well as the headline estimate.

If an employer or year is missing, gather pay records and ask SSA how to correct it. An estimate based on incomplete earnings may be misleading.

Understand What a Calculator Can Tell You

SSA provides benefit calculators with different inputs and assumptions. Read the instructions to see whether a tool estimates retirement, disability or another benefit.

Neither a calculation nor a completed preparation form decides whether your condition meets SSA’s disability rules. Figures drawn from old statistical reports should not be treated as current personal estimates.

Turn the Estimate into Questions

Use the result as a starting point for a benefits conversation. Ask about the gross benefit, possible deductions, family eligibility and the dates that apply to your situation.

  • Is the earnings record complete?
  • Does the tool estimate the correct benefit?
  • Could another payment affect SSDI?
  • What does the award notice say about actual entitlement?

Protect Your Information While Checking an Estimate

Use the official SSA website to reach your account or a calculator and read the tool’s assumptions before entering information. This educational page has no access to your earnings record and does not need your Social Security number. Keep the estimate date and the inputs you used so a later comparison is meaningful. If a tool asks for a projected retirement age, make sure you are looking at the disability information you intended to review.

  • Compare estimates only when the assumptions match.
  • Keep your account credentials private.
  • Use an SSA notice to confirm an actual award.
